নোবেল পুরস্কার

বিজ্ঞানী আলফ্রেড নোবেল  এর নামানুসারে ১৯০১ খ্রিস্টাব্দ থেকে নোবেল পুরস্কার প্রবর্তিত হয়। ১৯০১ খ্রিস্টাব্দ থেকে সারা পৃথিবীর বিভিন্ন ব্যক্তি ও প্রতিষ্ঠানকে সফল এবং অনন্য গবেষণা ও উদ্ভাবন এবং মানবকল্যাণ মূলক কর্মকাণ্ডের জন্য এই পুরস্কার প্রদান করা হয়ে থাকে। নোবেল পুরস্কার মোট ছয়টি বিষয়ের উপর প্রদান করা হয়।

বিষয়গুলো হল- পদার্থবিজ্ঞান, রসায়ন, চিকিৎসা, অর্থনীতি, সাহিত্য এবং শান্তি।

নোবেল পুরস্কারকে বিশ্বের সবচেয়ে দামি ও সম্মানজনক পুরস্কার হিসেবে বিবেচনা করা হয়।

নোবেল পুরস্কারপ্রাপ্তদেরকে ইংরেজিতে নোবেল লরিয়েট বলা হয়।

বিজ্ঞানী আলফ্রেড নোবেল ১৮৯৫ সালে করে যাওয়া একটি উইলের মর্মানুসারে নোবেল পুরস্কার প্রচলন করা হয়।নোবেল মৃত্যুর পূর্বে উইলের মাধ্যমে এই পুরস্কার প্রদানের ঘোষণা করে যান। শুধুমাত্র শান্তিতে নোবেল পুরস্কার প্রদান করা হয় নরওয়ে থেকে। বাকি ক্ষেত্রে স্টকহোম,সুইডেনে এই পুরস্কার প্রদান অনুষ্ঠান আয়োজন করা হয়।

অর্থনীতি ছাড়া অন্য বিষয়গুলোতে ১৯০১ সাল থেকে পুরস্কার প্রদান করা হচ্ছে, কিন্তু অর্থনীতিতে পুরস্কার প্রদান শুরু হয় ১৯৬৯ সাল থেকে। আলফ্রেড  নোবেল তার উইলে অর্থনীতির কথা উল্লেখ করেননি।

দ্বিতীয় বিশ্বযুদ্ধের জন্য ১৯৪০ থেকে ১৯৪২ সাল পর্যন্ত পুরস্কার প্রদান বন্ধ ছিল।

পরবর্তীতে প্রত্যেক বছর পুরস্কারপ্রাপ্তদের প্রত্যেককে একটি স্বর্ণপদক, একটি সনদ ও 

নোবেল ফাউন্ডেশন কর্তৃক কিছু পরিমাণ অর্থ প্রদান করা হয়।নোবেল পুরস্কার জীবিতদের দেওয়া হয়, মৃত কাউকে দেওয়া হয় না।
